Quality Inn in Casa Grande, AZ was great. Nice, clean rooms with a hot breakfast. We did some laundry the night before and they had multiple machines. Would definitely stay there again.
We went south for a while as I wanted to see the Kitt Observatory. The views and temperature were excellent. We have had great luck with the weather for the past several days. Blue skies with scattered clouds and temps in the 60's and low 70's in the American desert southwest.
The road up to Kitt Observatory was curvy (fun) with great views. The temperature was in the 70's at the foot of the mountain and in the 50's on top. We will be grandparents in the fall so Laurie bought a cute onesie for the future grandchild from the Kitt Observatory gift shop.
From there we traveled further east and south blowing through Tombstone until we reached Bisbee AZ, an old copper mining town. We stayed at the School House Inn. Their website has this to say about the inn.
How would you like to just kick back, relax, take off your shoes and simply enjoy some refreshing mountain air and listen to the sweet sound of the birds in the trees .That's exactly how it can happen right here at the School House Inn. It's also an ideal starting point to begin your fun strolling the historic Bisbee streets, hotels, library, gift shops and quaint eateries.School House Inn is a historic brick school built in 1918 at the peak of Bisbee's mining days. Located one mile west of downtown Old Bisbee in the quiet residential area, the Inn is surrounded by lush green hills and quaint colorful homes. Originally built as Garfield School for grades one through four, the school was converted to apartments in the late thirties and in 1989, it became a bed and breakfast. As a result, all rooms have a bath/shower.
In keeping with it's educational days, every room has a school theme. Everyone loves the Principal's Office Suite, the Art Room, the Geography Room and many others. Who would have thought that school could be this much fun. You can even sleep in class! This is a four star bed and breakfast. The inn has multiple "Fodor's Choice" awards, the first presentation in 2006, then again in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. They acknowledge the School House Inn as "one of the world's top establishments selected by the most discerning travel experts." This Inn is a "Must See", so be sure to book your room early and be sure to bring your appetite. The home-cooked breakfast is very yummy, and it's included with the rate. The School House Inn is a perfect "Quiet, Peaceful Getaway".
We absolutely enjoyed our stay at the Inn. Someone did a great job decorating this place. I was constantly finding new things to check out. We had reserved the Nurse's Room but there was a cancellation so the owner gave us the Arithmetic Room at the same price. It was a suite with a separate room for kids with twin beds. Many of the decorations in our room had a math theme. I loved it.
The breakfast was great also. We highly recommend the School House Inn if you find yourself in Bisbee AZ. The owner said they had about 5 inches of snow a month ago. This place is a few miles from the Mexican border.
We ventured downtown to eat dinner at the Table restaurant. The food was great. The town has lights strung across the streets which gave it a festive feel. Laurie says we are going to return here and spend a couple of days exploring. We did not have time to explore the historic downtown.
