Turn Master Bed 90 Degrees
The bed in the Wildcat was too short for me. I am 6' 2'. A good friend told me to buy a piece of foam rubber 6' x 6' x 5'. Slide the mattress away from the wall by 6 inches and place the foam rubber in the gap.
I did this and it seemed to do the trick, but sliding the mattress is a pain in the Wildcat because it fits snugly between two night stands and does not slide easily. Also, this makes the space near the wash basin more confining.
I solved my problem by removing the existing bed pedestal and building a new one. The pedestal is the same height as the night stands. I turned the bed 90 degrees and now the head of the bed is under the left window. The mattress completely covers the left night stand and mostly covers the right night stand. I put the foam rubber at the head of the mattress and now a regular sheet fits the bed.
I have an additional linear foot of floor space in front of the bed. The new pedestal is higher than the old one so I have more storage under the bed. I can not use the night stands but I never used them anyway. I much prefer this setup versus the original one. I even kept the old pedestal so I can easily restore the original setup if I ever sell the Wildcat.
I used 1/2' plywood. I used vinyl shelving paper to cover the plywood that can be seen. It's not a perfect match but no one will notice unless I point it out to them. The white strips are vinyl house siding 'J' strips, 1/2' in width. This gives it a finished look, cuts down on splinters and protects the vinyl paper on the edges.
Actually this was one of the easier things I have done and now I sleep very well.
All these pictures are of my new setup.
