Storage Drawers

The drawer packed and ready for use.

For the right front basement storage area I made a drawer to hold things I may need after setting up camp such as toys, shovels, fire starters, ax, etc.

I bought drawer slides from Lowes. I think they are 24 inches long and have a 100 lb capacity. I have a screen door latch (hook and eye bolt) that I use to keep the drawer from banging into the door while traveling.

For the left rear basement storage area I made a drawer to hold things I typically need while setting up camp such as leveling blocks, drill for the stabilizer jacks, scotch blocks, etc. I tried something different for this drawer because I wanted the drawer to extend more than 24 inches when pulled out.

I basically made a long box on rollers. I put two pieces of angle aluminum on the floor as tracks for the rollers. To permit the box to extend outside the storage area the wheels are on the inside third of the box. The other two thirds of the box can be pulled outside the storage area. This presents a problem because the two thirds is heavier than the one third and the box is off balance.

I solved this by putting a fifth roller upside down on a 2x4 mounted to the inside end wall of the box. This roller runs along the 'ceiling' of the storage area and prevents the box from tipping over when the two thirds part is pulled outside the storage area. I even put a thin piece of plywood on the ceiling for the roller to run on.

I did this project mainly just to see if I could make it work. It actually works pretty well.
