Boobies and Backpacks
Laurie has walked in the Race For the Cure for Breast Cancer a few times and asked if I would walk with her this year. I said sure, why not. After our trip to the mountains in May, where we did some hiking to waterfalls, we had decided to get more serious about hiking. I cleaned out the mice nests in my L. L. Bean rigid frame pack I purchased in 1986 (never used) and Laurie purchased hiking boots and a day pack. I thought the easy 5km walk would be a great opportunity to try out our new gear. Hence the title of this blog, Boobies and Backpacks. At this stage in our lives no grand adventure starts on an empty stomach. Seems lately that Waffle House has become a tradition. They make a killer gravy and biscuits plate.
This thing turned out to be much bigger than I expected.
There was a festive air about the whole thing and it was well organized. And no one was bashful talking about boobies. Everyone was talking about boobies, both male and female. There were many booths with trinkets and handouts to raise awareness of breast and testicular cancer. One of them was encouraging couples to check each other for signs of cancer and their motto was "Grope for the Cure."
There seemed to be 1000's of volunteers and on every block there were volunteers whose only purpose was to cheer on the walkers.
