Fresh Water Fill Hose Connector

I like to travel with a full tank of water. We use quite a bit during the day and I have stayed at several state park type campgrounds where there is power but no water at the campsite. With a full 40 gallons we can easily go a day, night and another day complete with showers and washing dishes.

So every morning while breaking camp someone has to stand and hold the water hose in the filler neck. I could buy an adaptor that consist of a foot long piece of plastic tubing that attaches to a garden hose. You insert the plastic tubing in the filler neck. However I don't like that idea because that is another piece of gear to take out and put away and also how do you keep it clean.

So I got a brass female connector with a barbed neck. This is designed to be inserted in a garden hose. I drilled a hole through the filler cap such that the barbed neck would just go through the hole. I put a hose gasket on the barbed neck first. On the inside of the cap I put another hose gasket.

Now the question is how to keep the connector in place. I played with a couple of things but the thing that finally worked was a brass washer I had in spare parts. The washer fits snugly over the barbed neck and then I 'squished' the barbed neck to make it oval. This prevents the washer from coming back off. There is not much room to play with here because this has to fit inside the filler neck.

I intended to get one of those plastic male plugs but never got around to it. I had a brass adaptor and yellow cap in spare parts so I just used that. I can see the yellow cap in my side mirror and I know that is the back of the Wildcat when maneuvering in traffic.

Now when breaking camp I just hook up the hose. I then raise the stabilizer jacks, unhook the power and couple of other things and by then the tank is usually full.
