North Rim of the Grand Canyon, One of my Favorite Places

As I write this blog, I have been to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon four times. I never get tired of the drive. On this trip we visited the South Rim of the Grand Canyon on one day and the North Rim the next day. If you have never been to the Grand Canyon you should probably visit the South Rim. But we will never be there again unless it is during the off season. The South Rim is very crowded because it is so popular.

The North Rim is a completely different experience. The North Rim is not easy to get to. It is not on the way to anyplace else, so fewer people visit. It is also higher in elevation so the climate is cooler. Then there is the drive from Jacob Lake down to the canyon. It is one of the most beautiful drives in America. And we did it on motorcycles late in the day. The temperature was perfect and the light was golden.

We camped in Jacob Lake and there are only two ways to get there. From the east you will travel through Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. That is a beautiful drive in itself. There is an overlook where we always stop for photos.

If you ever travel to the Grand Canyon area and can visit the North Rim, do so. Even if you have to skip the South Rim. There is also a very nice lodge at the North Rim. One of my bucket list items is to spend a night in the lodge at the North Rim in the autumn.
