Snow in July at Crater Lake, Oregon
In the early 80's I traveled to a few places and kept a travel diary. I thought my sons would some day enjoy reading my diary so I have decided to put it in my blog. I will enter my diary here as I wrote it years ago when I was a much younger man. I was 24 years old in 1984. At this time in my life I was traveling to Toronto Canada every week and I got bumped from a flight. Delta gave me a free ticket to any place they flew in the 48 states. I looked at their route map and the farthest I could fly was Seattle, Washington. So I packed my bags, tent and sleeping bag and headed West. I drove around the North West for a week.
8:50PM I am camped at Jackson Hot Springs near Ashland, Oregon on I-85 a few miles from California. Called Susie a few moments ago. I've traveled 500 miles today. Last night I camped at Mineral Springs in Wenatchee National Forest. I ate a burger for supper at a restaurant across from the campground. The campground sucked. Only a few sites and only portable toilets.
This place is pretty good and only $3.00 for a tent site. I took a well needed shower tonight. Then had a dinner of steak, potato salad, beanie wienies and red wine. The biggest thing I saw today was Crater Lake and the 8-10 feet of snow there. I also saw Mt. Rainier in the distance. I'm still taking a lot of slides.
